Somebody Made That

My Mom would often remind us 3 kids that people hand make things with love & care as to remind us of the importance of taking care of belongings. I think she also reminded us of this not because my Mom makes a lot of things but mainly because my brothers growing up were two of the most rowdy kids in our neighborhood. It didn't matter if it was on purpose or by accident, they broke EVERYTHING. I'm recalling more than one time getting shoes flung at my forehead because I happened to be well, standing in the same room. Whether it be a hole in the wall or a busted shelf, a dart gun being shot at my stuffed animals or anything I cared about, my brother Josh would jokingly say, "This is why we can't have nice things" or "Somebody made that." He would repeat "Somebody made that" in high pitch voice to a ridiculous point that even years later I still get this statement stuck in my head today. Anyway, hopefully I'll post more pictures of homemade jewelry and possibly some clothing alterations I've been working on.

PS- Josh, there's a cheesesteak with your name on it waiting for you at home.

Seagulls, who needs them?

Seen above are the same seagulls that made off with an entire falafel sandwich just purchased 10 minutes before.

Brats.

Sometimes staying positive in seemingly hopeless situations isn't about forcing inauthentic happiness. It's just trying not to focus on the list of crapola that weighs a ton.

I've been hearing a lot of talk amongst my friends and the people I meet at parties about being old. Okay, I hear ya, being old can be tough, right? This is of course when you're actually OLD. I start tuning out when I hear excuses about being too old to do certain things in your twenties. Come to think of it this talk bothers me at ANY age, but that's because I come from the firm belief that everyone is capable of great accomplishments through out their entire lives start to finish and a lot of which these can't be started, let alone done until you're "old" by some people's standards. So tonight when I got into a conversation at a friend's Birthday party in a dimlight day-glo bowling alley about being past prime before the age of 30 instead of giving 'em the normal you're never too old speech I sat there and listened and thought to myself you can't change the perceptions of others.

Fuck 'em.

Not literally of course. That would be unlady like.

Renovations!

Yes, the window bars may seem a little depressing at first. I don't mind them actually. While not the prettiest to look at they function for security purposes. The house I lived in very briefly last summer, shortly after I'd left had a break in through the 2nd floor window in my very bedroom. Suddenly, window bars became appealing.

It's looking like there's a 70% chance of move in come August 15th. About 30% chance I'll run home screaming to my parents if I see a flotilla of cockroaches craw out of the ceiling which I am half expecting! Either way, I am fully committed to renovating the room. I have to keep remembering that the house is gorgeous and the neighborhood is close to a lot of neat coffee joints and food markets. The room gets a ton of sunlight too! As for the view the different building shapes are interesting to look at.

You can't see the room but the wall paint is set! It's just a cute curtain rod away from being finished. Okay, and maybe another double coat of wood work paint, and about 10 more floor washings with vinegar and ammonia away from really being finished!

I just have to think good thoughts, good good uncockroachy thoughts.
